Facebook dislike button: Facebook has plans to launch what is being called the “dislike button”. “I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” Zuckerberg said. “Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.” The exact form a “Dislike” button may take is still up in the air. “What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy,” Zuckerberg added. “Not every moment is a good moment.”

Goodbye creepy targeted ads on Facebook: as you can see in your own settings page Facebook now allows you to choose your ads settings with a simple yes-or-no check. So, goodbye Interest-based advertising.

– Snapchat Launches First In-App Purchases With ‘Replay’: Users of the messaging service can now purchase “Replays” of disappearing photo and video “snaps” they receive on the app. Replays, priced at three for 99 cents, represent the first time users can spend money in the app. Snapchat still gives users one free replay per day, a feature it introduced about two years ago. However, a snap can only be replayed once. “They’re a little pricey — but time is money!,” the company said.

– You Can Now Donate To Politicians … On Twitter: Twitter just made it way easier for people (in the USA) to be politically active. They announced that through its partnership with mobile payment company Square, Twitter users will now be able to make political donations via tweets. Candidates sign up for an account through Square Cash and once his or her campaign is verified by Square, the politician can tweet a unique URL or a $Cashtag, which will have a “contribute” button.

Facebook Introduces Signal for Facebook and Instagram: Signal for Facebook and Instagram is “a free discovery and curation tool for journalists who want to source, gather, and embed newsworthy content from Facebook and Instagram, across news, culture, entertainment, sports and more–all in one place.” (Read more)

– Periscope Introduces Web Profiles: “Periscope web profiles are finally here! Go to to see all the recent broadcasts for any Periscoper.” (Read more)

– Pinterest Introduces Pinterest Palettes: “Pinterest Palettes looks at your boards and unearths your own personal color palette using colors right from your pins.” (Read more)

Skype Launches Mojis: “Now, when you send a message on Skype, you can personalize your chat and pull in your favorite TV or movie moments to do the talking for you.” (Read more)



Get It Twisted, Sainsburys

Sainsburys has launched a #LittleTwists campaign which involved adding unlikely ingredients into ordinary dishes.

Some examples include:

– Adding chorizo into a lasagne (pretty standard, just adding a different meat).

– Adding cranberry sauce into your grilled cheese (a likely combination, it’s probably happened to you by accident anyway).

– Adding anchovies into your shepherds pie (everyone eats them on pizzas, what’s the big woop).

However, one combination has really gotten people up in arms – adding instant coffee to your spaghetti bowl.

Now, I’d try anything, and I’ve tried this (I’ve made it before using real, fresh coffee rather than instant), they’re right, it adds a depth of flavour to the tomato sauce that otherwise would be standard. But people on Twitter are really freaking out about this.

There are definitely other, weirder combinations that people are taking lightly (chicken & waffles, balsamic vinegar & strawberries, apple pie & cheddar cheese). So why has this gotten people so bewildered?

They’re only promoting the use of unusual ingredients and combinations, some from other countries (harissa instead of gravy), and some local (horseradish inside a mac and cheese).

Currently, our food trend is both healthy (raw, vegan, juices, cleanses) and unusual (kimchi cheese sandwich truck, street food in general that stands out), so why can’t Sainsburys do the same and jump on the bandwaggon?

Although the Twitter reactions are hilarious, we support the strange additions of ingredients, it’s time we broke out of the norm and started evolving our food tastes. #LittleTwists
